十三朝古都：西周（286）、秦（144）、西漢（210）、新（15）、東漢( 獻帝初，6)、西晉(湣帝，4)、前趙（13）、前秦（35）、後秦（34）、西魏（23）、北周（25）、隋（38）唐（265），前後為國都歷1140年。

Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty, originally named Daxing City大興城, was built in the first year of Emperor Kaihuang of the Sui Dynasty隋开皇元年. After the establishment of the Tang Dynasty, it was renamed as Chang'an City. It belonged to Jingzhao Prefecture京兆府, Chang'an County and Wannian County.

The city is composed of three parts: Outer Guocheng, Miyagi and Imperial City, 外郭城、宮城和皇城covering an area of 83.1 square kilometers (not including Daming Palace 3.11 square kilometers).

The city’s industries are prosperous. At its peak, the population is 2 million in the municipal area, while the urban area is more than 1 million, the far biggest in the world at that time.

Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi Province, China. A sub-provincial city on the Guanzhong Plain in northwestern China,^[4] it is one of the oldest cities in China, and the oldest of the Four Great Ancient Capitals, having held the position under several of the most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Western Zhou, Qin, Western Han, Sui, and Tang. Xi'an is the starting point of the Silk Road and home to the Terracotta Army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang.

Since the 1990s, as part of the economic revival of inland China especially for the central and northwest regions, the city of Xi'an has re-emerged as an important cultural, industrial and educational centre of the central-northwest region, with facilities for research and development, national security and space exploration. Xi'an currently holds sub-provincial status, administering 9 districts and 4 counties. As of 2018 Xi'an has a population of 12,005,600, and the Xi'an-Xianyang metropolitan area a population of 12.9 million. It is the most populous city in Northwest China, as well as one of the three most populous cities in Western China. In 2012, it was named as one of the 13 emerging megacities, or megalopolises, in China
